These threaded inserts for wood turn a plain drilled hole into a solid 1/4-20 machine thread. Wood screws wear out their holes after a few rounds of assembly; a steel insert does not, so you can bolt, unbolt and re-bolt the same joint as often as you like.
They are a favorite fix for flat-pack and knock-down furniture, shop jigs, table legs, bed frames and camera or accessory mounts on wooden builds. Drill the hole, drive the insert flush with the 6 mm hex key in the pack, and thread in any standard 1/4-20 bolt.
Key features
- Standard thread: takes any 1/4-20 UNC bolt or machine screw.
- Simple install: drill to size and drive in with the included 6 mm hex key.
- Built to be reused: zinc-plated carbon steel resists corrosion and stands up to repeated assembly.
- Firm grip in timber: sharp external threads bite cleanly into softwood and hardwood.
- Neat finish: an 11.7 mm flanged head sits flush with the surface.
- Plenty to go around: 40 inserts cover several projects.

Good to know
Drill an 8.5 to 9.5 mm hole in softwood and go a little larger in dense hardwood so the threaded inserts for wood go in without splitting the grain. Keep the hex key straight as you drive so each insert ends up square to the surface, and test on a scrap piece first if you are working with a new wood species.
